Akshay Lamba

Akshay Lamba is the Chief Architect and Head of IT Strategy at MTS India. In his current portfolio he leads the departments of IT strategy, architecture, innovation and project management. MTS is the leading telecom operator in Russia with over a 100 Million subscriber base and has recently launched operations in India. With over 12 Million subscribers within 18 months of launch, MTS India is currently the fastest growing telecom provider in the sub-continent.

Akshay has a commendable background in the telecommunication vertical across the globe including his last stint in the Middle East region leading KPMG's telecommunications practice. Akshay has led a number of high impact, strategic initiatives, for large telecommunications, financial services and consulting organizations in US, Canada, India and Middle East.

Akshay's forte has been in the build-up of innovative business models, with a focus on creating sustainable competitive business advantage. He is well known for leveraging strategic partnerships for both -- in-house services delivery and joint go-to-market constructs.

Akshay has been associated with innovative projects such as the first large IT outsourcing deal in the telecommunications industry, extending enterprise data to mobile platforms and leading edge costing methodologies within the telecom arena.

Akshay's stint with telecommunication networks began within academic environments over a decade ago, in India and US. His research on heterogeneous telecoms and data network environments at the University of Michigan built the foundation for creating business models for IT and value added services in telecoms companies, as part of his MBA research work. He is also currently working towards a PhD in strategic IT management in telecom organizations.
